Full-time and Part-time Course for TOEFL IBT
(Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based Test)
TOEFL Foundation Level 1
TOEFL Level 1 is a foundation course in TOEFL which provides a solid grounding in the key language and skills needed for TOEFL success. The course contains essential information and advice about TOEFL modules and skills; as well as providing students with writing and speaking practice focusing on core grammar and vocabulary. To join, students must meet one of the following entrance requirements:
- have passed the Intermediate level on Ascend’s diagnostic test
- have successfully completed the Intermediate level of Ascend’s English as a Global Language (EGL) programme
- or have obtained a TOEFL score of 41 on the actual TOEFL IBT test (125 on the TOEFL CBT/450 on paper based TOEFL)
Entrance on any other basis is subject to the teacher’s approval. Students who do not meet the entry requirements set out by the Centre will be recommended for the English as a Global Language programme which covers similar academic skills at an intermediate level. On completion of level one students can expect to obtain a TOEFL IBT score of between 60-70 provided they have followed the course conditions laid down by the teacher.

TOEFL Advanced Level 2
TOEFL Level 2 is an advanced and comprehensive TOEFL IBT course which focuses on maximizing students score on the actual TOEFL IBT test. To join, students must meet one of the following entrance requirements:
- have completed TOEFL IBT Level one and scored at least 61 on the actual TOEFL IBT test (173 on TOEFL CBT/500 on TOEFL paper based test) or on an in-class practice test
- have passed the Upper Intermediate level on Ascend’s diagnostic test
- have successfully completed the Upper Intermediate level of Ascend’s English as a Global Language (EGL) programme
Students who have completed the Preparatory course must have attained at least on the actual TOEFL test or on an in-class practice test. Entrance on any other basis is subject to the teacher’s approval. On completion of level two students can expect to obtain a TOEFL IBT score of between 70-90 provided they have followed the course conditions laid down by the teacher.

Course Conditions
Subject to the teacher’s discretion, students cannot join a course that has already been running for more than four weeks; they will have to wait for the next intake for their level.
Students will be required to complete homework on a timely and regular basis. Those who do not may be disqualified from the course subject to the teacher’s discretion. Any students who join the course late are responsible to catch up on class work and homework missed, subject to the teacher’s discretion.
The teacher will make every effort to provide a course that is up-to-date with changes in the test structure. Students are responsible for completing all formalities related to taking the test. These include and are not limited to keeping up-to-date with test dates, registering for tests on time and completing any administration or registration procedures. Students are required to disclose to Ascend the score of any registered or in-class IELTS test taken during the duration of or in relation to their study at Ascend.
